Turnerhytten is situated some 45 minutes walking distance from the Ulriken tower, on the Haukelandsstikkene.

History

The cabin was originally built by members of the the gymnast association »Bergen Turnforening« in 1908 next to Vassdalsvannet. Starting in 1945, the cabin was moved to it's current location further up the mountain and opened in 1950.

Following a lightning strike, the cabin burnt down to its foundations in 1985 but was fully rebuilt and reopened in 1988.

Foundation

Today, the cabin is owned and operated by an independent foundation, «Stiftelsen Turnerhytten«, founded in 1991. The foundation's mission is to manage the cabin with a view to it being used by hikers and any member of the public.
